Alexa is a company owned by Amazon which provides traffic data of a web site. It was founded in 1996 by American Web Entrepreneurs. Alexa launched Alexa Toolbar which tracks context of each site visited, where most of the traffic forms come to a web site. Alexa works on this pattern and ranks a web site on the traffic it gets. It was acquired by Amazon in the year 1999 by Amazon and currently the most effective way to find out the traffic rank of a web site.


Alexa also crawls WebPages and archive them.

Alexa toolbar is available for almost all the browsers, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Apple safari and many others. You can use Alexa toolbar on all the browsers.

The visual appearance of Alexa is not changed since a long time, so the company is now going to launch a brand new look. In 2005 10Million users downloaded Alexa toolbar,, company don't have provided any statics of number of active users.

They also have released a toolbar for Mozilla Firefox, called "sparky". Some antivirus programs reports Alexa toolbar as "track ware" while some reports them as "adware" which means that Alexa toolbar is tracking user's activities which is true.
